What to Pack for Horse Camp at Licciardello Stables
Getting ready for a week of horse camp? Whether it’s summer break or a seasonal camp during the school year, a little preparation goes a long way toward making sure your camper is comfortable, safe, and ready for a great week around horses. Here’s everything to pack — and what to expect — for seasonal camps at Licciardello Stables in Lutz, FL.
The Packing List
Clothing:
- Long pants (jeans or breeches) — required for riding, even in warm weather
- Closed-toe shoes with a small heel (boots are ideal; sneakers are usually fine for beginners)
- A weather-appropriate layer for cooler mornings
- A change of clothes, just in case
Sun & Weather Protection:
- Sunscreen (applied before arrival, with a travel-size bottle for reapplication)
- A hat or brimmed cap for time outside the saddle
- Sunglasses (optional)
- A light rain jacket during Florida’s rainy season
Hydration & Snacks:
- A refillable water bottle, labeled with your camper’s name
- A packed lunch and snacks, unless otherwise noted for your specific camp session
- Extra snacks for kids with bigger appetites — camp is active!
Extras:
- A helmet, if your camper owns one (helmets are also provided on-site)
- Bug spray
- A small backpack to keep everything together
What NOT to Wear
- Sandals, flip-flops, or open-toed shoes of any kind — closed-toe shoes are required around horses
- Loose, baggy clothing that could get caught on equipment
- Jewelry that could snag during grooming or riding activities
What a Day at Camp Looks Like
While specific activities vary by camp session, campers at Licciardello Stables can generally expect a mix of:
- Riding instruction tailored to skill level
- Horse care and grooming time, building hands-on responsibility
- Barn safety education, teaching kids how to move confidently and safely around horses
- Games and group activities that build teamwork and camp-wide fun
Our seasonal camps are designed to give kids a well-rounded introduction to horse care and riding, not just time in the saddle.
